City Of Toronto - Employment Outlook for the GTA+H

Members of GD Economics staff lead a multi-disciplinary team on an assignment to generate employment forecasts by traffic zones for the greater Toronto Area and Hamilton to 2036. The assignment began with a scan of the literature on the macro drivers of global economic and employment change with a view to how these drivers would impact on patterns of growth and change in employment in the GTA+H going forward. The drivers identified were then subject to the scrutiny of a high powered panel of leading experts in real estate, transportation, financial services, manufacturing, demographics, and the environment who provided evidence and opinion of how changes in these areas would play out in the GTA+H. The evidence and opinions provided were then factored in to an input-output model of the regional economy and aggregate employment was projected by industry and occupation to 2036. Finally, the aggregate projections were allocated to traffic zones using accessibility index based modelling.
